The VW Caravelle's EGR is a component that diverts some of the exhaust gas from the engine back into the air intake to reduce exhaust emissions and control combustion temperature. The main function of EGR is to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions which can harm the environment. By reintroducing exhaust gases into the air intake, EGR reduces combustion temperatures and inhibits the formation of NOx during the fuel combustion process.
