If you are from Hong Kong and are a British national (overseas) you and your family members can apply for a British National (Overseas) visa. British National (Overseas) status is not intended to have any modes of acquisition after 1997. With one almost redundant exception, it does not transmit (automatically or on application for naturalisation or registration) by birth in Hong Kong or by descent. There is no provision for naturalisation as a British National (Overseas). British nationals who derived such status by virtue of a connection with Hong Kong. Its creation formed part of the arrangements for the return of Hong Kong to China.
If you are the child of a British national (overseas) aged 18 or older and born on or after 1 July 1997, you can apply separately from your parent. Your family members can also apply with you. You can apply to stay for either 2 years and 6 months or 5 years. You can work and study by using this visa. You can apply to live in the UK permanently after 5years.
