One-to-one Mentoring Support – help people make a new start with a new job!
New Deal mentoring gives unemployed people the chance to take advantage of one-to-one advice to help them find a new job. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique, so we’re offering people the support of their very own mentor.
Could you be that mentor?
Who is the programme for? Our clients are people who have been unemployed for a significant period of time; they may have barriers preventing them from finding employment and we work with them to help them gain confidence and learn new skills.
How does it work? You’ll work with a small number of unemployed people on a voluntary basis, helping them to return to work. We’d like to offer them the benefit of your expertise and experience on a weekly basis to help them focus on what they need to do to find employment.
What qualities are we looking for? We're looking for anyone who is enthusiastic, patient, has a positive attitude and is passionate about helping people improve their lives. It would also be desirable if you had job search skills and an awareness and understanding of the reasons for social exclusion.
What are the hours? All mentoring sessions take place between the hours of 9 and 5 at either an A4e office, or at one of our partner's premises. We currently operate from 16 separate locations across London. The hours can be extremely flexible. When you meet up is decided week by week between you and your mentee, making this an ideal volunteer position to fit around your other commitments.
What support is available? The first step is to attend a mentoring induction day which will provide you with a sound knowledge of the basic principles and approaches to mentoring, as well as more in-depth information on what mentoring with us will involve. Once you get started, you will receive ongoing support from your volunteer coordinator. You will have regular 1:1 meetings and you can telephone them for support and guidance when you need it.
You will be provided with ongoing opportunities to participate in free training to help you further develop your skills and aid your professional development. You will also have the opportunity to gain a City and Guilds accreditation as a ‘Community Mentor' provided by Business in the Community to recognise your contribution.
Finding employment makes a massive difference to people’s lives, helping them to find new confidence and direction. It’s your chance to improve someone’s life!
If you are interested in this opportunity please either:
Send us an email with your CV to a4ementoring@a4e.co.uk
or telephone Asmara on 020 8746 9031/07515190124
We look forward to hearing from you!
