The HD display is capable of a progressive 720-line (720p) image. Progressive displays are sharper than traditional interlaced displays since they draw each line of an image for every screen cycle rather than drawing alternating odd and even lines. The Value of DLP TVs DLP technology allows for lighter and thinner TV displays than previous CRT (tube) technology allowed, though not as thin as most LCD or plasma models. This set is 16.63 inches thick. DLP technology uses millions of microscopic mirrors on a chip to make an image by bouncing and deflecting light through a lens. SRS WOW, TruBass, and Focus create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response and directed audio sweet spot over standard TV audio. The cabinet includes stereo speakers, but the TV also has coaxial and optical digital output for connecting to your audio system. A great audio feature is something Toshiba calls StableSound, which normalizes the drastic volume fluctuations between content and commercial or while switching channels. 50-inch Widescreen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 50-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch.
