The Gift Shop Department on a cruise ship offers the following jobs: Gift Shop Manager, Assistant Gift Shop Manager, Shop Assistants / Gift Shop Sales Associates.
Many of these shops are run by large Concessionaires which generally consist of Boutiques, Jewellery, Perfume and Cosmetics and general gifts. They hire applicants with experience in retail, sales,and customer service. Some cruise lines operate their own Gift Shop departments.
Cruise Ship Gift Shop Manager. Oversees entire gift shop operations and manages retail staff. Must have three to five years retail experience. Managerial experience necessary and public speaking skills for on board demonstrations. Salary: $3,000 - $3,300 US per month, (Approx £1,500 - £1,650) depending on commission.
Cruise Ship Assistant Gift Shop Manager. Oversees the day to day operations and assists in managing the retail staff. Reports directly to the Gift Shop Manager. One to two years retail management experience is necessary together with public speaking skills for on board demonstrations. Salary: $1,900 - $2,400 US per month. (Approx: £1.450 - £1,200 per month) depending on commission.
Cruise Ship Sales Assistants. Reports to Gift Shop Manager. Must have two to four years of previous retail merchandising, display and sales experience. Ability to perform arithmetic operations involving monetary units and calculating ratios and percentages. Must be able to speak, write and read English; speak clearly, distinctly and cordially with customers. Responsible for selling merchandise in onboard gift shops. He/she is expected to meet or exceed company established sales goals and customer satisfaction levels by receiving, displaying, maintaining, promoting and selling merchandise. Duties include: Stocking of shelves, counters or tables with merchandise. Ticket merchandise and pricing correctly. Answering customer’s questions. Using cash register to total customers’ purchases and determining bill. Cleaning of shelves, counters, tables or floors in display area and storeroom. Keeping records of sales, preparing inventory of stock and ordering merchandise. Maintaining security of merchandise in shop and storeroom. Salary: $1,800 - $2,300 US per month (Approx: £900 - £1,150 per month) depending on commission.
THE ABOVE SALARIES ARE AVERAGE. IN ADDITION YOUR FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION IS INCLUDED AND YOUR SALARY IS NORMALLY TAX FREE IF YOUR CONTRACT IS FOR SIX MONTHS AND OVER. THESE CONTRACTS ARE RENEWABLE. |
