Nanogaine is a new product for hair loss and has many benefits. Nanogaine is in a class of hair loss treatments that are called SOD's ( SuperOxide Dismutase). Simply put SOD's help movement of nitric oxide to the hair follicle and prevent free radical damage to the hair cells. Blood vessels use nitric oxide to signal the surrounding smooth muscle to relax, thus dilating the artery and increasing blood flow. A good example of this effect is nitroglycerin when given to heart patients is converted into nitric oxide in the body and increases blood flow in the arteries.

The nitric oxide (NO) chemical pathway exists within every hair cell. Increased presence of intracellular nitric oxide has been shown to increase the size and section of the hair follicle. Nitric oxide (NO) should not be confused with nitrous oxide (N2O)

Conversely, Peroxynitrate has been shown to be detrimental to the health of the hair follicle. Peroxynitrite (ONOO-) is a product of the reaction between nitric oxide and superoxide. Peroxynitrate is a powerful oxidant that can attack cells and cause hair loss. The Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) found in Nanogaine has a two-fold hair growth stimulation effect:

1) Nanogaine's SODs provide more nitric oxide ( NO ) to the hair cells which in turn provide better hair growth
2) Nanogaine's SODs inhibit peroxynitrate which may help hair growth also.

What is a SOD?
SOD is the abbreviation for Superoxide Dismutase. Superoxide Dismutase is one of the most powerful antioxidant enzymes in the body and clinical evidence has shown SOD's may help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. Many companies are seeking patents for specific metal binded peptide superoxide dimutase compounds.

The benefits of Superoxide Dismutase for hair loss was found by accident in the late 1970's when a copper/zinc peptide SOD was used to see if it would help prevent cataracts in diabetic rodents. All the rodents were suffering from massive hair loss as result of the disease. The SOD proved ineffective to prevent cataracts but did prevent any further hair loss in the rodents.

How Do SOD's Work?
Superoxide is found in the body and appears to inhibit hair growth. Superoxide is a free radical that combines with nitric oxide to form Peroxynitrate, which is toxic and causes the hair to fall out. SOD's (superoxide dimutase) destroys the superoxide free radical so the production of peroxynitrate doesn't occur. As a result hair loss is prevented. There are other causes of hair loss (namely DHT production) but SODss do have an effect on hair loss caused by the free radical damage of superoxides.

Nanogaine also contains capilecti, which is a lectin-like (lectin is simply defined as protein which specifically binds (or crosslinks) carbohydrates) glycoprotein which helps attach hair follicle cells together. Capilecti has been shown to the expand the anagen (growth phase) phase of the hair and shorten the telogen phase (resting phase) of the hair by 17%.

Nanogaine also contains Lo-Seb, which is a complex of homotaurine, bacterial filtrate peptides, and marine derived sulphomucopolysaccharide extracts. Lo-Seb reduces sebum output by 16% and is effective in normalizing seborrhea which is often implicated in hair loss. Lo-Seb has also been shown to increase the percentage of hair in the growth phase (anagen) by 15% (from 74.6% to 85.5%)
